From the President:

We often talk about what would happen to the club and to our cabin if Tahoe had a snow drought, but rarely do we complain about too much snow!

That has been the major topic since the holidays when the Sierras received 8-10 feet of snow, and again when a second major storm caused the season's first race to be cancelled.  A number of us were then forced to abandon plans to brave Rt. 80.

All agree on one thing though: once we can get there, it's going to be a great ski season in Tahoe!

There have been a number of Board changes since the elections last May.  Special thank you's go to John Ulrich, our new Race Director; Steve Noetzel, Activities Director; Sue Hall, Membership Director, and O'mar M'Sai, Secretary.

Our club now totals
157.  A warm welcome goes out to all our new members.

Wine By the Bay -- the club's major fundraising event was October 9 at the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio --Despite reports that several people got lost, it was otherwise a great success.  We'll have better maps next year!  I am pleased to report that we raised approximately $7,800. A check for $3,900 has been sent to Disabled Sports USA.

This event took tremendous effort, and would not have been possible without you.  Personally, I can't thank you enough.

Special recognition goes to the following people:
* Arceil Juranty for the catering and event logistics

* Risa Meyer for marketing ticket sales

* Renton Rolph, Amelia Morgan, Sue Hall, Cynthia

Robinson and Elisa Olmsted for the silent auction
* Steve Noetzel for the venue, and for managing

the wine tasting event (with help from Marianne  Bennett,  among others)
* Dave Solhaug (Sölhaug Grafik): design of the

   promotional postcard/invitations and flyers
* Roger Lion, Geoff Leland and Carol Wong for

   decorations
* Genie Mantozos: Program

and to everyone else who helped that evening--- pouring wine, checking people in, and selling drink tickets.  Thank you.

Since Wine By the Bay, there has been the Open House for membership recruitment; Thanksgiving at Marianne Bennett's; Christmas party at Roger Lions'; Race team kick off at Kate Black's and Don Berger's; Cable car Christmas caroling led by Sherri Wilkinson and Genie Montzoros, and Steve Noetzel's New Year Eve bash at Savannah Jazz.  Later this month, about 30 club members are going to Whistler-Blackcomb for the annual ski trip.

It's shaping up to be quite a year.  To keep current on what's happening in the club visit our Web site: www.sfskiclub.org or call the hotline at 415-337-9333.

Please support our weekly general meetings on Tuesdays at Faz; our cabin in Tahoe Donner; the race team; and contact Steve to volunteer to lead an activity.  The success of this club is up to you.

Ski safely and have fun.
